The Florentine Diamond - Missing Since
The Florentine Diamond
The Florentine Diamond was reported a stunning yellow diamond. It was reported to have weighed 137.27 carats.
It has always been a mystery to me, because no one knows for sure who it belonged to. Most say it belonged to the Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold.
Rumor has it that during World War I, Charles the first of Austria smuggled it with him in exile, but it was then apparently stolen.
Many say it was taken to the United States, and then cut and resold.
But did it?
Could it have been?
Are yellow diamonds that popular in smaller cuts?
Still a mystery!

Because Style is Everything, Jewelry is More!
"Because style is Everything, Jewelry is More!" ~ Will Gibbles
I am not sure who Will Gibbles is, but I sure do love his quote. It reminded me of these "pirate" treasures that I found. This is a red garnet vintage ring, sterling silver. And the other is a red glass bead from a truly exquisite vintage necklace. Don't you just love this picture?

An Example of Faux Jewelry
Often I am asked, "How do you know it's real when you buy it?"
What a LOADED question! Do you have hours?
Unfortunately, few do, so I often opt out of the conversation with "Well, sometimes you just know."
Too many variables and detailed explanations required.
But
SOMETIMES.
YOU.
JUST.
KNOW!
Like this one for example, it's beautiful! But the stone is obviously plastic to touch and it is glued onto the band. Now, the band is more unique, most likely aluminium - that is why I bought it - but it has been stretched to fit the fake stone. Not too much value here, but I LOVE the fun fancy.
So, yes, I have it.
And am selling it - eventually.
It's hard to part with anything - even fake jewelry.

A Most Valuable Piece of Jewelry
Well, we would be amiss if we did not mention one of the most famous jewels of our time.
Affectionately known as the Princess Diana Sapphire, this stunning ring now graces the finger of Princess Kate nee Middleton, wife of Prince William of Wales. I do believe they both have more officious titles, but I am not sure what those are exactly :)
So instead I will share what another blogger has written about this famous jewel.
You can read more by clicking on the link below.
"Princess Diana is an iconic figure. No wonder the royal jewelry that she wore which is now in the hands of Kate Middleton will be valued at a price of $38,488. This ring was given by Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer on their engagement. Aside from the actual price. This ring is historically significant."

Organic Gemstones
Did you know that there are only a few gemstones that are classified as organic gemstones?
These gems are organic materials used as gems. So, basically, these became precious because we looked at them and said "Pretty! These must be valuable." And now, items like ivory in particular are precious, because of the history of how ivory was obtained.
But there are other kinds of gems that are technically "organic" - these mainly are rocks... But that is for another post.
